It is a governmental procedure established for the peaceful resolution of non-criminal wrongs and grievances committed by individuals and companies among and against one another.  It typically involves trial by a jury trial or a trial to a judge or a panel of judges.

IN EVERY DAY LANGUAGE SOME ONE SAYS “I’LL SEE YOU IN COURT” OR “I AM GOING TO SUE YOU”

In recent years, there have been calls for tort reform laws to set caps on the amount of money a jury can award to an injured or wronged party.  Some states have passed such laws to prevent jackpot awards.  Others have not because unfair awards are rare and policed by a court’s procedural rules and a state’s substantive law.

CAN YOU GET JUSTICE IN TODAY’S SYSTEM?

You get different answers depending on a person’s own experience.  Keep in mind that it is an adversarial system but it is one of the biggest freedoms and rights that the citizens of this country enjoy over other countries of the world.  It is the right for a real chance at justice.

The party who is sued, or the defendant, is also asking for justice.  As a result, there are many factors that come in to play.  The attorney or lawyer you choose to review your case is the first big step to get justice for yourself or a family member.

HIRE AN EXPERIENCED ATTORNEY YOU KNOW AND TRUST FOR YOUR CASE!

An experienced attorney is one who has practiced the same or a similar case in the past.  The attorney knows the law for your case or has the ability to become familiar with the law of your case in a relatively short period of time.

The attorney knows the way to the courthouse and has been in the courtroom before.  You must have confidence in your attorney’s ability to handle the ups and downs of the different situations your case may cause to bring your case to the best possible conclusion for you.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

IF YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE BEEN WRONGED BY ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL OR A COMPANY, TALK TO AN ATTORNEY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
